Texas Trip--Day 6

Thursday morning started out a little slower for us because the museum we planned to visit didn't open until 10. It was nice to lay around a little and relax before hitting the ground running! I was super excited today; we were going to the Sixth Floor Museum (the old Texas School Book Depository where Lee Harvey Oswald was hiding when he shot JFK), and then going to the State Fair of Texas in the evening!

We had about a 20 minute drive to downtown Dallas and I looked back on the way and saw this sweet baby almost asleep. We laughed SO hard at his face in this picture! 😂

We had audio tours at the museum and didn't even think about taking pictures until we got to this little area. They have it behind glass, but that window to the right is the one from which President Kennedy was shot. When the police searched the building, they found boxes of books stacked in the area, along with shotgun shell casings. They have it replicated exactly as it looked that day in 1963.

Henry was SO good and watched my phone most of the time.

Suddenly interested in the boxes!

The view down the street where JFK's car was when he was shot. It's hard to see in the picture, but they have a big X marking the spot where he received the fatal hit.

Things began unraveling as we were leaving, and Henry LOST IT! I know these tantrums come with his age, but it didn't help that he was totally off schedule and not getting as much sleep as he needed. Caleb and I tried to stay calm and remember that, but it was HARD to deal with!

Henry looks as bad as his mama when he cries; I get the same red, splotchy face!

We were planning on trying In-N-Out Burger for lunch, but we really weren't sure if it was going to work out with the way Henry was acting. By the time we arrived he had calmed down a little, and seemed okay to take in. Plus we told him we'd let him get ice cream you drink through a straw (AKA a milkshake), and he perked up.

Yummy food! We were so excited to try In-N-Out because of how famous it is, and we really liked it. However, we both agreed that we like Five Guys better!

He had to share his milkshake with daddy, but of course he loved it! 😊 In fact, on the way home he took the lid off and put his hands in the melted remains and made the biggest, stickiest mess! He had to be changed and fully washed when we got back!

We had planned to be at the fair around 5 o'clock, so we had about 3 hours to relax and try and get some rest. I tried to get Henry to lay down and take a nap, but he would not lay still longer than 5 seconds. Well wouldn't you know that as we were putting our shoes on to walk out the door, Henry fell down, hurt himself, and started hysterically crying. I picked him up and starting rocking him and singing "Hush Little Baby" and he was asleep in 3 seconds flat! Caleb came out of the bathroom to see this...
...sweet little baby just couldn't keep his eyes open!

We weren't really sure what to do, because we didn't want to wake him up. Caleb wanted to just stay at the house, but I refused to miss the fair! I thought Henry would stay asleep on the way and fortunately he did. It took about 45 minutes to get through traffic to the fair grounds, so he got a decent nap (at least better than he had been getting!) Of course he was excited once we got to the fair, and ended up doing GREAT!

The State Fair of Texas is absolutely HUGE; we spent over 3 hours there and could have spent several more. We didn't do much outside the Midway, but I wish we had time to go to the animal area. I know they have farm animals to pet and ride, as well as a dog show.

Henry picked a duck and won a ball! 😊

Riding the flying elephants with daddy! Click on the pictures to see his sweet smile better. :)

Henry and I rode the swings together. This is one of my favorite rides, and he loved it too! He had a giant smile on his face the whole time we were in the air, and he kept saying "WHEEEE!" 😂

I crammed myself onto a tiny train car...

...and then Caleb and Henry rode this kiddie coaster. Henry was a little scared on this and started to cry, but he was fine as soon as it stopped.

Henry got a snow-cone, I got a big plate of french fries, and Caleb got a Fletcher's corny dog, which is apparently a state fair staple!

Had to get a picture with Big Tex on our way out!

As we were walking towards the exit, we came across a dance performance with music and fireworks. We sat in the grass and watched for over 20 minutes and Henry loved it! He kept asking for more fireworks. :) The dancers were on a stage just on the other side of the water.

We were so tired when we got back to our house, but we had the BEST time! Caleb says that the fair was his favorite thing we did. We definitely plan on going back one day!
