Home Tour {Kitchen}

Today I'm sharing pictures of our kitchen. This is probably the room that will eventually be getting the biggest facelift. There are several big projects we have in mind, including painting cabinets and replacing countertops. I think the only thing I miss from our old house is the kitchen sink. Sounds strange, I know, but it was a deep single basin sink that we had put in, and it was SO nice. So I definitely have plans for something similar in this kitchen. ;) Here are some pictures of it when we bought the house:

And here it is today:

The only things we've done are paint the walls a very light cream (they were beige), and replace the range.
I have several ideas that I'm throwing around for this space. It's technically a breakfast area, but I just think it's silly to put another table in here when we have one a few steps away in the other room. Our storage space is very limited, so I'm just trying to think of a more practical way to use this area. I'm thinking maybe some kind of small chest and floating shelves on the lefthand wall. OR what I think I'd love would be to do some kind of built in desk under the window. A place to clip coupons, pay bills, store office supplies. I don't know, Caleb is not sold on the idea, but we'll see what else we come up with! I will gladly take suggestions! :)

 The glare is bad, but this is a photo that Caleb took years ago at my mom's house. She has a little basket of ceramic eggs that have sat on her counter for as long as I can remember, and this photo is special not only because Caleb took it, but because it's a reminder of my childhood home.
 The "Variety is the Spice of Life" cross-stitch is something I bought at an antique store before we got married. I used it at our wedding on the favor table (we served little boxes of jelly beans, Caleb's favorite candy), and it's a sweet little memento from a very special day. It always makes me smile!
 We bought this adorable bookshelf at an antique store in Franklin, TN when we were living in Brentwood. Funny story; we were waiting in line to checkout and there was a woman and her daughter in front of us. The mom said "Go back and get that bookshelf." and the daughter turned around to walk away, and then immediately turned forward facing again. Her mom was like, "What are you doing?? Go get the bookshelf!" And the girl mumbled under her breath, "They are getting it..." Caleb and I just stared at the floor (and clutched it a little tighter! haha) It was sooo awkward! We came so close to missing out on such an adorable and unique piece, and I'm glad we didn't! I use it for cookbooks, and it fits perfectly next to this little counter.
 This shelf belonged to my grandmother. She had it hanging above the secretary desk that's in my living room, but I decided to separate them. I love the way it looks on this wall. The little accent table is something that was in Caleb's dad's attic, and when he was moving several years ago, he was getting rid of it. I was drawn to this piece the moment I saw it, and I have never brought myself to get rid of it, even when I haven't had room for it. I just love how rustic it is, plus it has some really unique features like the carved legs and small drawer. I added the basket, and use it for storage.

And that's a look into our kitchen! I can't wait to finish with our renovations and post updated pictures. I know the difference will be huge!  Thanks for stopping by, come back next week for a look at another room!
