Texas Trip--Days 7 & 8

I never finished my series of posts about our trip to Texas, and I have been meaning to for weeks! I have one more day to recap, and it was too fun to ignore!

On our last day in Dallas, we went to the Perot Museum, which is a super cool natural history and science museum. I've heard amazing things about this museum for years from a Dallas-based blogger I follow, but her kids are older elementary age, so we didn't know if it would be good for Henry. Then we read online that they have a children's museum for kids 5 and under, so we figured we'd give it a try. Well let me tell you, we were SO glad we went!  Henry loved it and so did we!

There were 5 floors to visit, and all of them are devoted to different science fields. We didn't hit every floor because there was some stuff that was way above Henry's comprehension level (let's be honest, some of it was over my head! LOL), but there was a lot he could enjoy.

His favorite part (outside of the children's museum) was an area with all sorts of hands-on science and engineering experiments. We couldn't believe how much he loved this stuff!

There was a computer connected to this wheel and you designed an image on the screen, turned the handle, and as the wheel spun, your design was somehow transmitted onto the wheel. It was amazing!

There was a sound booth where you could play music on different instruments and then use software to mix it together.

Henry loved this area where you experiment with making a course for a ping pong ball. We configured the tracks in different ways, added wooden blocks, and watched the ball go! Henry would have stayed here for waaayyy longer if we would have let him!

I love this picture because Henry looks like some sort of mad scientist. HAHA! This table was where you made circuits. There were tons of different pieces, lots of wires, a machine to convert current...I have never been so confused! 😂 Henry obviously had NO clue what he was doing and I don't know why he liked it so much, but it was when we made him leave this spot that the first meltdown of the day occurred. 🙈

Dinosaurs!

We finally made it to the children's area! It was SO CUTE!! Henry could have easily stayed and played all day. There was a section for crafts, a big water table area, a campground with pretend food to cook over a campfire, an area about produce and farming, complete with a pickup truck to load, some kind of fort to climb on...it was amazing!

It was when we had to leave here that Henry FREAKED OUT and we had to drag him away kicking and screaming. We didn't blame him, he was having the best time! Unfortunately it was time to eat lunch and hit to road to Houston. We ate at the museum cafeteria which was surprisingly good, and on the way out, we let Henry play a little on the museum's lawn.

Taking his shoes off to play in the water!
The only way I can think to describe this is as a babbling brook in the middle of a concrete patio. 😂 There were lots of kids playing and we ended up staying longer than we planned. Henry got soaked, and can you guess what happened when we had to leave?? Huge meltdown #3!

We changed his clothes and started driving, and very soon this tired baby was out!
We drove through Huntsville on our way to Houston! 😜

We ate dinner at Raising Cane's for the 2nd time this trip, and honestly didn't have the best experience because Henry just could not get it together. He was sooo tired after a week of being off schedule, and he just couldn't do it anymore. Caleb and I both had frayed nerves, and were just ready to get home!

We booked a room at the airport in Houston, and had a pretty cool view! Caleb returned our rental car while I got Henry settled, and we went to bed early. 🙌

Up bright and early the next morning for our flight home!

We ate breakfast at the airport, and then just killed time until we could board. We upgraded our seats so that we could be at the front of the plane in a more spacious area, but there ended up being 4 empty seats at the back of the plane, and the flight attendant moved us back there so we could spread out. This was Henry's best flight by far. He stayed buckled in his seat the whole time, and was pretty content to eat snack and watch movies.

And as we were taxiing on the runway in Huntsville, this happened. Great timing, Henry...NOT!

Tracy and Derek picked us up from the airport, we ate lunch, and then we went HOME! Henry went straight down for a nap and Caleb and I started laundry and unpacking. We saw and did SO much on this trip that it's hard to believe it only lasted a week! It was crazy at times and there were moments when I was just ready to come home, but we had so much fun and made so many wonderful memories that will last a lifetime! I love traveling with my family!
