2021 Recap

 -JANUARY-

We were in the thick of the newborn baby haze during the month of January; too little sleep, big adjustments, and tons of sleepy snuggles and sugar-sack bottom pats. ;) Lots of moments like this...

...and this, which are just the best in the world.

The kid's bathroom got a little makeover...
...which meant bubble baths in mom and dad's tub for a while.
We starting getting some baby George smiles...
...and planted a million kisses on those newborn cheeks.
-FEBRUARY-
Caleb was still working from home this month, which was a huge help as we continued getting used to our new life as a family of 5.
We got our first and only snow of the year...
...and also had some warmer days that allowed us to get out of the house to play.
We made valentines and had a pizza party with cousins...

...and then kicked off Valentine's Day with a special breakfast and gifts...
...joined with a birthday celebration for the best daddy!
The kids enjoyed a movie night...
...and loved on baby brother.

-MARCH-
Our dear friends were in town from Hattiesburg, so we met at Let's Play and the kids had a blast. It was our first time going, but not our last for the year!

Claire had a big month! We started working on potty training...
...she had her first visit to the dentist (and did great!)...

...and she transitioned from the crib into her big girl bed!

George was also hitting milestones like rolling from back to belly...
...and being the sweetest and happiest baby ever!

-APRIL-
April is a busy month in our family, but a fun one! We celebrated Easter with egg hunts...
...egg dyeing...
...Easter baskets...

...followed by church and an attempt at a family picture. 😜
We celebrated our big girl's 2nd birthday...
...and had so much fun watching our boy play T-ball.
George started eating (and loving!) solids...
...and Derek and Stephen were the MVPs when they helped us get ready to have our crawl space encapsulated.
We wrapped up the month by celebrating my birthday with dinner at Pan e Vino and a delicious cookie cake made by my sister!

-MAY-
The month of May started with the kid's first camping trip! We went with our small group and all of the dads slept in tents with the kids while the moms got to sleep inside our friend's beautiful farmhouse. It was my kind of camping!
Caleb and I got to go see a Trash Pandas baseball game with friends...
...and we had Mamaw and Daddy Wayne come watch Henry play baseball.
We planted new flowers in our pots and I had lots of helpers reminding me to water them this year. 😜
And then we kicked off summer with a Memorial Day weekend in Marietta with family. This is truly one of our happy places, especially when Evelyn and Caroline are there!

-JUNE-
We filled our early summer days with yard projects (notice all of the trash bags and fence segments on the curb), bike rides, playing on the swing set we got for the backyard, and just generally trying to beat the heat, although it was an unseasonably cool month.

We gave Caleb Trash Pandas tickets for a game on Father's Day, so we celebrated our favorite daddy at the baseball game.

The highlight of our month (one of the whole year!), was getting to go to the beach with our dear friends, the Jacksons. We had THE BEST TIME. I can't even put in to words how wonderful it was to be with each other for a week, watch our kids grow their friendships with each other, cook and enjoy meals together...what a dream come true!

-JULY-
We celebrated July 4th weekend at Nana and Derek's house with family and cousins and fireworks and had so much fun, like we always do...

...and also got to go swimming and have a cookout with friends!
We took the kids to the Kiddie Carnival in Athens and had so much fun! This was our first time to go, but definitely not our last!

We went to Green Mountain to feed the ducks...
...spent lots of time swinging in the backyard...
...and at the end of the month, we got to go back to the beach! We spent the first half of the week with Nana, Derek, and Kendra...

-AUGUST-
...and finished out the week with Mimi, Papa, and the Hoggles!

When we got home, it was time to start back to school! Claire began in the 2's class and Henry began Pre-K at Twickenham.
We also started doing some school at home...
...and Henry began learning his letters and how to write his name.
Henry developed a talent for building train tracks...
...and George continued in his talent of growing bigger and fatter and cuter every day!
Our whole family got the dreaded COVID this month, but didn't mind all of the time at home together! The kids got to connect with their classes online for a few minutes a day, and watching all the 2 year olds on a Zoom call was a highlight of quarantine. 😂

-SEPTEMBER-
We spent Labor Day weekend in Marietta, and took the kids to the Georgia Aquarium, where we had a great morning seeing so many cool fish and sea creatures, as well as a dolphin show...

...and George tried his first Varsity hot dog while we were in town!
Henry started Soccer Shots where he had the best time every week running around and learning a little about soccer...
...and Claire had the most fabulous curls while we sat in the humidity and watched. :)
We spent lots of time outside, soaking up the last of summer...
...and welcomed fall with pumpkins and pansies on our porch!

-OCTOBER-
October is always a busy month in our family, and this year was no exception! We had the joy of watching Henry turn 5 and had the best time celebrating him!
We made a fall bucket list that included a trip to the pumpkin patch...
...carving jack o' lanterns...
...trick or treating at the Botanical Gardens Scarecrow Trail...
...as well as with cousins, neighbors, and friends!
We also travelled to Centreville this month to visit GanGan and Mamaw and Daddy Wayne!

-NOVEMBER-
Henry got to check the last item off our fall bucket list by jumping in a pile of leaves...
...and then we were ready for Christmas. :)
Henry finished Soccer Shots...
...Claire got her first haircut...
...and George got to meet Chuck E. Cheese at Evelyn's birthday party! 😂
Henry and Claire each named something they were thankful for each day, and we quickly saw our turkey fill up with all of our blessings...
...and we spent a wonderful Thanksgiving in Marietta! Claire started running a fever that night and we had to cut our trip short and go home the next day, but we were still grateful to be able to spend the day with family.

-DECEMBER-
Our month was filled with even more joy and celebration than usual because now we have a December birthday in our family! We celebrated our baby Georgie turning 1 with a Curious George themed birthday party...
...and we made time for lots of Christmas cheer!
We had some nice days that allowed us to get outside...

...and then we ended our year in the middle of a bathroom renovation!
We enjoyed a quiet night at home on New Year's Eve. I put together a charcuterie board of sorts for the kids, and they were delighted to see that fruit snacks and Santa chocolate bars were included. I told Caleb that I was out of energy and ideas for the last meal of 2021, and this will probably be my new tradition. 😂

Looking back at our year fills me with so much gratitude as well as excitement for another year! I love my little family so dearly and can't wait to grow closer to one another and make more memories in 2022!
